I put one on a 306 HDi. If you want to get fancy you could always put a switch in to turn it on and off if it starts to piss you off.
Mav, I should add that cheapo ones are prone to leaking, and in some cases will cause a pressure drop. Therefore a small drop in boost. In some severe case scenarios they could leak so badly that the Air/Fuel mix changes, which could damage your engine quite badly Fine for a nova TD but not a nice new volvo.

Recirculating valves are generally better as they dont leek or cause unmetered air problems. Atmospheric valves just dump the air out into the engine bay, but they do have an appealing tssss noise

Dump valves aren't controlled electronically on a petrol car.
All you did on a diesel was hooked it up to a brake vacuum hose.

You can control dump valves electronically on petrol engines as well.

dump valves do actually serve a purpose for the engine, they are no just there for the so called chav noise you lot seem to call it.
mine makes that noise, wouldnt change it for the world

It is my understanding that atmos valves release the air to create the noise where as recirc make use of that air but sending it back in to be used again, hence the name recirculation valve. I'm a turbo newbie btw so i'm picking up bits here and there and puttin 2 + 2 together most of the time.
