It just so happend that i was watching a DVD at work today where Stig Blomvist drove all the group B cars, and he said the RS200 was one of the best balanced and overall the best package of the group b era

So why are they so expensive compared to all the other Group B rally cars of the day?
Most group B rally cars are going @ about 20k to 30k not 100k+

1) It only got to race in 1 season of group B
2) there far rarer than all the others, bar the Pug T16 possibly
3) that one is a RHD road car
4) its done 1000 miles

But they were not the best group B rally car though as they got one word title in 1985 and that was it
WRC (1983-86)
The earliest Group B WRC was dominated by Lancia 037 (1983 winner) and Audi Quattro Sport (1984 winner), both of them were developed based on the existing road cars, although the Audi received heavy modifications. But the real competition started in late 1984, when Peugeot entered the purposely built 205 Turbo 16, a mid-engined, 4-wheel drive nimble car. It won the title easily from Audi's hands in the next season. Ford entered RS200 in 1985, with ambitious plan but so-so result. Lancia Delta S4 suddenly stormed the field as it won its debut race in 1986, and still dominating the driver's championship as well as manufacturer championship until the moment that its leading driver Toivenen died in a crash. So Peugeot seized the chance and retained its title in the final season of Group B.

Did i state by results that it was the best ???
as it only got 1 season to compete in, where its best result was 3rd from memory in sweden
What iStig Bloomvist said (genrally regarded as one of if not the best group B drivers off all time), That the RS200 was the best balanced and Best group B car he had driven, and was a massive leap from the Quattro's E1.S1 and E2 that he had driven so succesfully
he said the only downfall in his opinion was that the BDT engine was done on torque due to its design which leant itself more to cicuit racing
he also went on to say given a development season, (as the Audis, 037's etc had) he reckons the RS200 would have been a future group b champion

Bit steep - would have been 55 grand nineteen years ago and saw several mint international tarmac spec examples going for in the region of 50 to 60K during the early and mid 90s.
100K should buy you a rather serious spec car - that seems to be the roadgoing or group 'N' stock 250 brake model.

Absolutely on the floor LMCAO
Try telling that to Pat Doran who has been British Rallycross Champion and regularly wiped the floor with the rest of the field in his 200 on countless occassions, until he retired it last year due to rule changes and financial constraints.

More or less blank cheque was written to fund development of rally monster with little or no connection to mass produced vehicles.
Car was 55k in bog standard homologation trim 19 years ago - Ford built 200 cars and that was it, so demand tends to outstrip supply somewhat.
Engine rebuild on an Evolution spec car would cost in the region of 20K, and new RS200 blocks were 10K when still available so a bit optimistic on cheapness there i'm afraid.

Never seen a Grp B car go for less than 40K, and that was a 6R4.
BTW, that 200 is a mint, late registered, one owner car that has been garaged since new and hardly used, so will command a premium.
