think people are missing the point here. As is usually the case on here.
We're not pinning all our hopes on Rooney, we're just saying that to have the best chance of winning it we need him fit. Simple as.
We're not saying the rest of the team is shoot either, I think the likes of Neville and Cole are quality defenders. Shit in front of goal though 
Goals win you games, end of. Crouch certainly won't be up to it and personally I don't think Owen looks as sharp as he did.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no direct replacement for him is there.
We have no depth of squad when it comes to our strikers.

no. its nothing to do with just Rooney, its to do with the whole team.

I think that what makes Rooney such an integral part of the team is the fact he plays a free role. If you look at the other players in englands starting 11, they are all structural players for their clubs (with maybe gerrard being the exception). Rooney just gives that little extra to the team in terms of floating around, coming deep etc.

Different type of metatarsal (sp fk knows) injury.... rooney should be okay by the end of this month to be honest... Owen i just dont know, when ever i see him i think he's fragile

I would agree with you there, however I really do think Bent deserved the chance to prove himself in the warm up games, surely a better option than Walcott?

agree. Walcott is a massive gamble and Bent should have gone. How you can't take the Premierships top goalscorer is beyond me

hes getting on, he does not have the love of the game he used to .

How is Owen getting on, he's only 26 for christs sake, he has even reached his peak yet. I agree he hasn't looked like Owen of old at Newcastle but he has had horrendous injury problems and hasn't really had the opportunity to have a run of games.

as for rooney anyone who says we dont need him is obviously not a football fan .Some of his goals and overall play this season have been world class.He is the one thing that england have lacked in the past someone who can change a game in a second.Owen had a similar impact in 1998 but its nothing on what i think rooney would be capable of.
