The camera only says how fast the police car was going, not the car in question. If he hit 120, then was slowing down as the police car was trying to catch up, they haven't got a speed. Only a definate he was speeding.

Speeding is sooo stupid, keep it to the track and not the road!

Firstly what car do you drive out of interest!

Secondly don't have the opening line 'Well I was doing 120 mph'...

Personally, I think go to court and contest it (if it goes to court at all).

IF the police had any evidence (i.e. video footage) then you would be being nicked for the speeds you were doing! So by them saying 'well you were doing around 80-90 mph' suggests that they definately don't have footage / accurate speed calculated.

Similarily. In a court of law evidence has to be precise. They cannot say 'well he was definately over 70' or 'he was doing 80-90 mph'. They have to give an exact speed / average speed. Once again lack of evidence.

I got nicked for 101.4 mph but they had it all recorded, so pointless contesting anything.

In your case however, it sounds like they probably saw you shoot past, they chased, but by the time they caught up with you, you had slowed down - so they had no evidence or actual speeds. and have probably just pulled you over and said this all to you, to scare you.

Did he give you a verbal N.I.P?

i.e 'You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say can be used in a court of law - you will be getting a court summons for the act of excessive speed' etc.

if not, then don't worry - if they don't give you that whole 'you have the right to remain silent etc stuff' then it's instantly chucked out of court if it goes that far. But by the sounds of it, no court summons will ever arrive.

Especially since they said you'd get it within a month, but court summons have to be sent within 6 months. Did you even see them write anything down? They gave me a producer too that said excessive speed.

He drives my old car Paul. Like i said the other week Matt on MSN, even though the speedo read 120 you would only have been doing 107-109 ish so unless you stayed at that speed for a long time you wouldnt have been doing over a ton for long

They said they 'think' you were doing 'about' 80-90!!! Could they be more vague? Just stick to ya guns, say you were doing 70 and that they are wrong in their estimated, guessed speed!

if you are ok with the police at over 100 mph 8 times out of ten they will let you off because they dont want the paper work for the instant ban so i would go guilty and take the anal kicking you will get off the judge 120 is messed up on a public high way

wtf? police won't let you off 8 out of 10 times for the hassle of paperwork - for over 100 mph idiot.

'IF' the police let you off for something like this, it's because they have no evidence and know that it won't hold up in court if you contest it. So it's not worth the effort for them then.

If they have evidence, it's not hard for them, neither is it a 'instant ban' - it has to go to court first and you have to be found guilty to recieve the ban.

this is shocking advice! if you contest it a lot all you will do is wind the magistrates up and get mahoooosive court costs!

If the car was a vrs, chances are it had something called VASCA in it, which basically means you are screwed.

Bend over, learn a lesson, and drive slower - simple

They don't need video evidence to have you done for dangerous driving, due care and attention etc....

You already lost this one.

If you got pulled on that road and it was an Octavia VRS then it will have been a road policing unit car from either Almondsbury or Radstock. These officers are specialists in road policing and should have the cameras etc in the car.

Typical do gooders.

Unlucky for getting caught mate. Take the advice from someone that's been caught like Paul. But it seems confusing that they didn't give you an exact speed they caught you at

You going to court then?

ive got to wait 4-5 weeks he said for a summons to come through, i saw no camera etc or video equipment when i was sat in the back of the skoda either!

they wrote something down once i gave them my licence and then that was it,

i recieved no caution and they said if i plead not guilty they will come to court as witnesses and say, and i quote " you were travelling around 80-90 miles per hour"

ive decided im going to wait to see if i get a summons, and if i do ill go to court and ill be adament i was doing 70mph, and ill appeal etc.

think this is a smart move?

btw its Ajones_17's old car, 1.6 sport

Those skodas have the suitable equipment. They're traffic cars. Did they not give you a stop sheet?
