KIFF, the pivot point on a wheelbarrow is nothing like what it would be with a car. a wheelbarrow is designed to pivot infront of the weight, a car has weight over the wheels.

if anyone wants to try it, come to my house, take the engine out of the mini, and prove me wrong

obviously the wheelbrough, wasnt the perfect example, i was just trying to point out the car would be lifted using a pivot point and that it wouldnt be require the same force as lifting the entire car

yeah I understand that, but I still think it would be considerably harder then most people seem to think.

edit - I used to go banger racing with a mate, and if anything broke underneath, we'd roll the car onto its side (no interior, no windows, no lights, only the engine and a carb under the bonnet) it would take 4 of us, and that was a Sierra, which would weigh less than an average car these days.

1029kg with the engine, so 875kg without

width (inc mirrors) is 1608mm, so the track width is about 1450mm

so you'd be lifting 437kg, with a corsa 1.6 with no engine?

no chance.

thats because the assumption is made that the center of gravity of the car is half the length of the axel, and you are lifting from one side of the car and the pivot point is the other side of the car.

so no matter what the width of the car the weight is modeled to act from the center. And the force is applied at twice this distance, so the force is half the weight
