mine made peak power at nearly 800rpm more than they revved yours to.

get an X16XE ecu on there, and get it on some decent rollers, with a proper graph with power AND torque.

thats the right graph... the spec was, c16xe (100k miles)
custom made inlet manifold,
piper 256 fast road cams
cheapo viper style filter
custom 2-1/8" exhaust (made myself)
gauze removed from air flow meter

the cat was still fitted, exhaust was blowing and valve stem seals are well gone, smoking loads lol, was about 40ppl behind the car on the rollers, after the first run there was no one lol...

on the same day my frined had his gsi on the rolling road and his spec was.
c16xe (aprox 50k miles)
mantzel powerbox,
schrick 256 fast road cams,
apiro (viper style) filter,
scorpion group A 2.5" system,
de-cat,
gauze removed from air flow meter
10mm race leads

as you can see the torque on my rolling road printout was a bit over the place, think this was mainly down to the fact it was burning lots of oil and the exhaust blow... other than this they both produced similar power, and both on standard mapping.... something is defo not right with yours mate... whats the exact spec??? chris

if you are using a manztel syle inlet manifold it is very very inportant that you use a std air box or an enclosed style air filter like a pipercross viper... every one i have driven with a normall air filter had a major missfire/flatsport between 1500rpm and 2500rpm... part throttle is fine in this area but as soon as u plant it its as if it cuts out and splutters really bad... absolutly fine with the enclosed filter on tho...

That seem ok for what work has been done ?

far too low, should be 125-130ish with those mods...

my GSi ran 117bhp with just a full exhaust system & decat, standard inlet and exhaust manifolds, and a pipercross induction kit...

my mates gsi (the green one above) was 118bhp with the scorpian system, jr filter and a superchip lol... but defo helps with powerbox'd xe's is the filter try a std are box or an enclosed filter... made a world of diffarence, maybe felt a bit less power but was way way smoother throughout the whole rev range with hardly any flat spots... it was very very fast on the road... cant wait to get my new gsi on the road even tho it will be a pretty much standard engine, thinking along the lines of a 1800 conversion using the original 16xe block, not sure which to do either motorbike throttle bodies or a bmw mini cooper s supercharger... anyhow both will be fun

the bimmer charger will be an arse to fit given the size and positioning of it, also the way the chargecooler works on it too...

would be better getting a rotrex or something, binning the PAS and modding the mount to fit it there instead...

the 16xel block is the same as the z18xe1 block, the reason the capacity is increased is just different crank to increase the stroke & also slightly bored out

tbh would be pointless if your going fi on that, given the increased stroke, would just cause more issues..

its not, the Z18XE, and all Z prefix blocks have different oilways. the X prefix ones will go to 1700, but the wall thickness isn't much.

I looked into it when I was considering options for mine, and so did RobHayes

cant remember which way round it was but basicly using a small block 1.8 crank and pistons in the c16xe block will obviously make 1.8... think it was z18xe or a x18xe1 that can be used for the bits... i am not using power steering or air con on my car, and the original idea was to use the bmw supercharger mounted below the original engine mount, and using it in a similar way to a turbo i.e blowing through the throttle body and using an intercooler between them.... fueling will be done with either cream or yellow injectors and megasquirt...

C16XE stroke is 81.5mm, Z18XE stroke is 88.2mm

you will not get a z18xe crank in a c16xe block, the pistons will hit the head.
