Yes but what RPM is the torque made at waaaaaaaay too high in the rev range to be of any use

yeah i forgot at racing conditions all the drivers drive at 2-4k all the time.

But you want to be high in the rev range when you hit peak torque!

Torque = acceleration.
Power = Top speed.

When you change gear you change at a high RPM and ultimately want your torque to be high so you accelerate quicker!
