sounds like noisey lifters to me.

Got the same issue on my XE after leaving the cam cover off for too long (drying them out).

Hasn't been as quiet since.

You should be using 10w40.

Vauxhall oil for a vauxhall engine. Keep it simple, its no track racing super tuned engine, so keep it as factory intended.

Lol, i think Jenko meant you have cars in for a service.
They are charged for 5Litres of oil(usual amount), but then obviously the engine only takes 3-4L, so you have 1L left over?

Which i assumed you meant you use yourself..?

Hence why I ask for the remaining oil after a service.

That 1l is good for a top up a few months down the line....

But then thats down to the customer to ask for it. You don't ask, you don't get....

I always charge for the oil I use, if a car takes 4 litres, they pay for 4 litres, if it takes 3.75 litres they pay for 3.75 litres.

I just save up all the bits left over in the bottles and I end up with 1 full one to fill up my car with theres very few garages that buy oil in 5 litres now, most buy in 20 litre drums.

looks like someone has revived my old thread! yeah it is quite funny some of the replies here. To all the people that said semi synthetic is no good for running in, my engine has used it since being rebuilt, and it has plenty of compression and pulls lovely through the gears. Vauxhall use semi synthetic because its cheap, just like engine builders usually use it to run engines in because it soon gets thrown away after a few minutes use!

mine only begins to tap when it gets very very hot ie: 97-100 degress on the temp gauge sat in traffic, the rest of the time it runs smooth as fuck. It only gets that hot stuck in traffic, in which case I just shut the engine off and let it cool down, let the badgers behind me wait!
