it could well be that your timing isnt being advanced correctly when lower down the revs therefore causing lack of power and by giving it a more ignitable mixture your kinda masking the prob. possibly

it lacks power in the low revs cos its a 1.4 mate lmao
i used to have a 1.4 and torque wasn't one of the engines features, although lots of happy high revs were.
reaaally suprised how much more torque my 1600 has though, drives completely different which is strange for just another 200cc's
and i've also noticed v-power makes mine go a bit quicker.... only high revs though (like 6krpm + lmao) just gives it that little bit more urgency
