My view on the dangerous dogs act, and dangerous dogs in general is this...
Its not the dogs that are the problem, its the owners that are in charge of them. A pitbull, Rotty, or any other 'dangerous' dog can be perfectly fine in a good home, as good as any other kind of dog out there that is readily accepted.
The RSPCA doesnt even support the Dangerous Dogs act as feel banning of certain breeds isnt right, thats why with this current anti-pitbull crusade by the police they are refusing to help or huse any of the dogs they take.
And also...I wouldnt leave any dog with a small child. We have an Old English Sheepdog who is the softest dog I have ever seen. We have had her nearly 13yrs and know she would never do anything to hurt anyone, but we would still never leave her alone with my young nephew.

Cosmo- i disagree with you on this . I know what your getting at that if you bring a dog up it will be good. this is correct in a normal breed. The thing is with pits is they were bred for fighting. There will of been a fighter in its family tree and in its genes.
They are time bombs- when they start getting like this they need destroying

I think what he is saying is that most aggression in dogs has been reduced by selective breeding...
Sure they all retain aggressive behaviour but at differing levels. The larger/more aggressive breeds pose more of a danger becuase of their ability to inflict injury.

yeah, I wont argue the fact that the larger breeds obviously offer more danger due to size and strength, but anyone saying Pit Bulls offer more danger due to past breeding/image/etc havent taken the time to visit the 100's of kennelclub websites and similar that prove this wrong.

as I said above, I wouldnt leave any small children with any dog. The majority of breeds have at some point in the past attacked a human, normally after provocation, so its just not worth the risk.

To people that own the rotties or pit bulls why do you not get a different breed of dog?
why do you have to have a breed that is classed as a dangerous dog, is it an image thing?

I personally want to own a Pit as I like the look of them. Im well past the stage of wanting to look hard so certainly not for that. Plus they are renowned for being well behaved, trainable dogs that are very loyal.

not really the same is it.
if you own an illegal breed of dog (not rotties) that can be taken away from you by the police at anytime for being classed as a dangerous animal why put yourself through that trouble.
whats illegal about owning a turbo corsa.

i have mine just by chance but i always wanted one anyway.they are one of the most clever breeds of dogs out there and are easy to train.plus you have the fact you dont need an alarm on your house
also any type of dog should not be destroyed because of what it is or what it has done it is the owners fault it is like it so why should the dog have to die??

I agree you can train any dog except a pitt , you can train it to sit etc but they are bred for one reason.
The dogs are illegal for a start well Americans are , englishs need to be mussled and neauted.
Why dont they say mussle a poodle?

yes, I follow you if you mean they could be taken away, etc etc.
But why would it get taken off me when it would rarely be outside the house to be seen. It would come out running with me, muzzled, and then live in the garden/house.

exactly. They are muzzled due to public demand because of the image they have been given by the media.
All the dogs I have been bitten by in my life have been little shits, they should be muzzled too!!

yer but when a smaller dog snaps or bites a person it tends to cause less damage then a pit bull or 8 stone rottweiler would do.

so by your theory all dgs over a certain size should be banned as if they do snap they cause more damage?

We are talking about dogs which are wild ....Not humans
I am 100% certain Pitts cant be fully domesticated , you may get half way there having thier nuts chopped off but it will never be .
Do these look safe?

does this dog look like it likes this kid?
