Strange, my girlfriends 1.4 pulled up a hill, accelerated pretty damn well.
Shame it burnt all the oil (common problem) without the oil pressure light coming on and now the engine needs replacing.

you drive a 1.0 12v, no offence, but it will seem to accelerate well
the 1.4 zetec s's arent that bad for 1.4's the 1.6 lumps are underpowered though

I think as an allrounder the Fiesta is probably the best on your list. Think its the one Id have anyway!

Haha Each to their own really I guess!
The ex missus has got a Zetec S Fiesta and I really like it, I think it looks the best out of the 3, has the best build quality, easy and cheap to work on, handles well (very predictable which was always good with the ex's driving!)
Yeah it is the slowest but to be honest when your talking 60 times around the 9 second mark and 100 times over 20 seconds, the odd second here and there isnt even noticed. To be honest Im probably not the best person to get an opinion off on this as if I were buying another hot/warm hatch then acceleration times wouldnt be top of my priority list!

Amen!!!
Yeah, the 106 will edge you off the lights and round a track it will get into the corners carrying about 2mph more but who's really that arsed if thats not your thing!?
The Fiesta is more reliable, IMO looks better, easier and cheaper to fix, a lot safer and is built a lot better!
Good choice!

Fiesta more reliable
106 Gti
Cheap to run
Looks subtle/nice
Isnt made by Ford
Quicker than zetec s
Handles a lot better than zetec s
Is a lot more tuneable than the Zetec s
is no less reliable than the zetec s at all

dont the fiesta's take 10.5 secs to get to 60 though? I've been in a couple and they seemed alright, not any better than a 1.4 sport to be honest.

Yeah, Im pretty sure the Fiesta is a lot more reliable than the 106 GTI.
The lads also said, he isnt interested in the acceleration or the on the edge handling characteristics of the cars! At the end of the day it sounds like he's after a smart looking, reliable run around thats got a little bit of poke. I just think the Fiesta is better suited!

there are a few gti about. Gearboxes are not the best but are not a major problem.
106 will leave a zetec off the lights

i disagree, i would much sooner have a pug over a fiesta for reliability

Thats fair enough, like I say a lot of this is down to opinion but in the three years my ex has had her car its cost her nothing at all! Shes done 20k which isnt a great amount and the car doesnt exactly get a shoeing but I dont reckon you'd be able to say that about your Peugeot.
