the lack of a guaranteed hard drive and the smaller storage space of the DVD format is limiting the game's progress
and it affects all xbox owners. not just core. the developer isn't going to make 2 different versions of the same game

2 disks gives 18gb and thats more than any game needs for a console at the moment.

i say just design it with the 20gb HDD in mind, the small percentage have to buy a HDD to play it, big deal.

Here we go again, does it really matter. I bought my 360 for playing games, not particularly bothered about HD DVD/Blueray until it really takes off. I'll worry about it in a year or so I think.

20gb h/d is big enough to save games etc.
will only need a bigger h/d when the film thing comes to the uk xbox so we can download and store. then a bigger h/d will actually mean something

um blue dragon which is already released in japan is 3 disks so yes there are games which already use more than one disk ....
"it is the first Xbox 360 game to use more than one disk. Clocking in at a whopping 30 gigabytes, Blue Dragon will come packed onto 3 DVD disks - outright defying Sony’s claims that a high-capacity disk is needed to store true next-gen games. After a generation where there were very few – if any – games spread across multiple disks, many find the idea of seeing a “Please Insert Disk 2” message disconcerting and not very ‘next gen’ – Blue Dragon will hopefully serve as a reminder that having to change disks once in a while isn’t all that bad."

I'll get the sony fanboy crap as usual but this no game uses the space yet is another totally irrelvent argument.
The games WILL need the space.
The developers will use every bit of space they can get their hands on.
I'm sure when floppys came out they thought that was more than enough storage space.

of course the space will be used eventually as said, movie clips, HD, high res images and graphics can be pushed to the limit and all be stored on a single disc.

But one game out on the 360 doesn't so thats good enough for steve and topshot to quote in every post.
Is it GOW they use?
If that doesn't use a full dvd nothing could possibly ever use more ever.

im not saying they wont be used up, of course they will, but certainly not in the near future by that i mean next couple of years.
And if they are, then as topshot said, 2 disks, not a problem, id rather swap disks then pay twice as much for a console with no decent games for it
iv read in loads of places a lot of ps3's are just sat on shelves

I class next gen as the graphics/gameplay offered by games, not the means by which it achieves it.
I could argue that having to plug controllers in before using the wireless is not next gen
