Had to have an argument with the chap in the tyre place as he didnt beleive me that my tyres need rotating every 2-3k cos of the 4x4 system he said someone was "having me on" Plus he wouldnt undo one of my wheels cos it was "too tight"

Fucking jobsworths!

Why do the tyres need rotating every 2-3k miles?

Because the car is FWD with some rear drive back up the fronts wear faster than the rear. Also due to the difference in camber angles between front and rear tyres the tyres wear at different speeds.

In order to be your viscous couplings best friend they need to all be 1-2mm of tread and as even as possible to keep rolling radius' the same so as not to overload it

I've gone from Toyo's to Eagle F1's and the difference is huge. They were cheaper than the Toyo's aswell. £102 for F1's vs £104 for the Toyo's

The F1's are an amazing tyre, I have them on the BM. Its nice to have confidence in the wet esp in RWD!!

End of the day its the only thing holding you onto the road so they might aswell be good quality, if you crash beacuse of crap rubber you will be so pissed that you went for the cheaper brand and saved £50

Not for me I got them through work for my car, £64 each and fitted them myself. But you get what you pay for anyway, would rather have a good set of tyres on my car. But yes they can be costly.
