No they won't unless it affects the emissions. Got to a garage and let them sort it, it could be a number of things.

every car has tell tale lights on the dash
they all come on when you turn the ignition on so you know all the bulbs in the dash work
otherwise if a fault occured with the engine and the engine managment light on the dash was not working then it would not light up warning you of the fault
you should have at least the following when you turn the ignition on
red battery light
red oil pressure light
engine management light
esp which is electronic power steering
handbrake warning light when the handbrake is applied also comes on on some models if the brake fluid resevoir is low
and a abs light if it has antilock brakes
If a red one comes on whilst driving ie the oil pressure or battery light then you need to stop the engine and have it looked at before anymore damage is done
amber lights are less serious, if there is a fault with the engine and the eml comes on, it can sometimes go into whats called limp home mode, to do just that limp home or to a garage to have it fixed
as for a MOT that is just to make sure your car is safe on the road
Anything else then it needs booking into a garage for further investigation into the fault your having
hope this helps
