It wasn't,Lol.
The only 1600 16v as far as i know, in a mk3 astra was the XEL, due to stricter emissions rules(newer car than corsa etc).
The 1400 sport was a x14XE.
But the 1600 version used the later XEL engine

If you got a x16xe out of a mk3 astra, someone had fitted it thereselves, it wasn't factory.

Well i have a list of all engines that were fitted to the astra mk3.

x16xe is not there. Maybe vauxhall are wrong?

ive never seen a 16xe in a astra either .. all have been xel's

The engine I had was from an Astra 1.6 sport and had the same inlet manifold as a Corsa sport. Not only that, but it said X16XE on the block

The car was not converted.

dan why not just keep it a 1.2 a while longer till you get the cash for a 20xe? you can buy the parts needed for 500 ish i think then get this mate to fit it

I agree with robin. some astra 1.6 sports did come with an X16XE as standard.

My Ecu software program also confirms this.

as it stands i wont be having alot of money coming my way until april/june. so that makes a c20xe/let out the window till then

im not after silly power to the wheels just somthing with a bit go in it

no the superviser made him do it and to be fair he did a good enough job, not the best stainless worker i know though mate, who ever welded my middle section up at your place did a good clean job

EPC does not list the x16xe for the mk3 astra

Tech 2 does not list the x16xe for the mk3 astra

Snap on diagnostic does not list the x16xe for the mk3 astra

Im confused

Well, I know 100% that my engine, an X16XE, came from an unconverted mk3 Astra 1.6 Sport.

It also had ABS and no speedo sender on the gearbox.

The flywheel was a flat type, not a pot type, and the clutch was new ( )

It was definitely an XE, not an XEL and it was definitely a factory car. :S
