Well at the moment its at the local garage - the head is been taken off and they are going to look why the compression in cylinder 2 is fluctuateing so much. Apart from that i know no more

MEGA UPDATE:

You are not going to believe this - the garage has just phoned me up now and informed me that when they have took the head off they found insulation tape on the head. Where cylinder 2 is. This causing the head to lift up ever so slightly and causing a gap. No valves are damaged and the piston rings are fine.

Why would you put Insulation tape on the Head

Yeah i guess so. They are gonna skim the head pressure test it to be on the safe side but they can't find anything else wrong any where

It's a pain in the arse job taking all that off on a 16v'er

I don't get why it is there though? Unless it's fallen in by mistake?

Its not fallen in he said it had been purposely place there. Directly where cylinder 2 is. One thing he said was that they probs stuck it there to keep the gasket in place while they put the head on.

Iain my XE did this but because noe of the headbolts was foobarred (common)
