But all aftermarket exhaust aren't standard spec and are louder, so must be illegal, which they aren't?
He doesnt mean that. He means if the car has a Db rating of 80 for example with standard exhaust, and he put a back box on it, which is modifiying that exhaust, then it will be louder.
But, if he put an aftermarket exhaust (full system) and it has a rating of 90Db it will be ok, because it is made that way!
no
police say ANYTHING that alters the noise is illegal
they stopped me in my 1.4 sport when i had it and didnt undertsand where the noise was coming from (induction kit)
Well you must have the exhaust police then. Yer because they probably thought your exhaust was broken of blowing.
If it has a decible rating on the exhaust (which all decent ones will) they wont argue.
I dont see how you lot get stopped all the time anyway?
Do you lot drive around the town centre alot with TN hats on?

its not ilegal to sell them keith
and its not illegal to fit them
they just say its illegal if they are louder than standard, (at first it was only for excessive noise)
they dont have any figures for standard cars so they dont have a clue what they are talking about when they say its too loud,
they always seem to quote a standard uk impreza turbo, so thats obviously the only one they were told at the meeting,
it really pisses me off, they'll do this till people get annoyed enough to give in, then they'll morve onto something else like lowering or something

Can't be done. When i got my car MOT'd i asked if they have a noise tester and they said no. It'd cost too much for every test centre to have one.

So basically, the police are well within their rights to fuck my mate over for his exhaust?
I take it they wouldnt usually bother, but if they are in a bad mood/havent had enough head from their special constables, then you get done.
Fuck, my car is louder than his ffs, im getting done straight away

i know they are not illigal, my point is why are they aloud to sell them but yet the law says they are illigal when fitted

What if you have a car with a conversion engine in though?
For example a LET corsa. There's no manufacture's standard exhaust for this?

its not illegal, otherwise extra's on cars such as porsche's would be illegal.
the only way they can do you is by revving the tits off them and give you a section 59.
think about harleys with exhausts that rattle windows
