Fair enough if you don't like them or their accents, but it's not a gimmick to sell records. As for the fame thing, thats up to them. Staying out the papers is a wise choice IMO

Your missing the point here. Take away the accent from Am what have you got? A bass guitar and a crap lead singer?
Famous thing? They say they dont want to be famous in the papers? They make a huge fuss about being controversial at awards. Surely this just brings them attention that they said they dont want?

Lyrically they are quite good, if anything was a gimmick it would have to be the first album which was pretty much just about going out on the pull etc. Second album was also good, but nothing like the first in terms of what they sang about
Without his voice it wouldn't sound right, same as any other band/singer. Imagine Metallica with a voice like Mika, would never sound right

'Crap lead singer' is again a matter of preference, just because you don't like him doesn't automatically make him crap. There's a lot of bands/singers I don't like, but I wouldn't call them crap if they're selling shitloads of records and making money.

Hmmm to that id more say, imagine Metallica who couldnt play properly and you have an american AM (without the songs about fighting in pubs) 
Like Robin correctly said, its totally down to preference. IMO a good band needs to do serveral things very well.
1. A good lead singer who can sing at all different types of levels (high, low etc)
2. Amazing Instrumental skills
3. Serveral different styles of songs (slow, fast etc)
4. Be consistant
AM only tick one of them boxes for me, thats why i dont like them.
And anyone who says i dont like them because they are popular are talking bollocks As i stated before, I think The Killers are excellent

My opinion is based on him being mono tonal (is that a word ) Seems to have one sound, very drone and boring imo
