Also what is the reason you 'need' a new mouse?
if it's just that some people have the later models and yours is a crummy old one, or something like that, then they may be less likely to come up and replace it, than if the mouse is not functionaling at all.
I love the way the user's always assume the IT department are always sitting there twiddling their thumbs awaiting a call like "Hey, can I have a new mouse"

I'm not working at the mo, I'm a student. But last year on my placement year, I was working somewhere, but kinda half in the IT department looking after the network etc, and half working with the software developers.
Quite often I had a high work load of software projects, development, testing, documenting etc. As well as being given projects to do with the network, making processes more efficent, finding solutions for people who had problems previously etc, etc. Also supporting a lot of people off site, who had remote access to our network, or salesmen with their tablets going out to branches and doing stock checks etc, but forgetting how to do the most basic things. Juggling all this shit and then someone rings up and goes 'Hey, can I have a black mouse, as my mouse is white and my desk is black' - Fuckkkk off I wouldn't ignore them mind, i'd just wait till I'd finished what i'd been doing before taking one up
Most IT departments are under valued in companies imo. The reality is tho, without them the company would be at risk of failing.

Then your IT dept is a joke and I'd personally be writing an email to their IT manager / or higher complaining that you've had an on going problem that has not had a response or solution to.
That'll get them up in a shot!

Nope, IT departments are a waste of money...
So what is everyone using right now to post whilst at work??? Laptop, PC? Handheld?
All come from the IT dept, ironic that
I say this to the people here.
Yes if IT wasn't here, where would you store all your documents? There would be no DMS? How would you get to the internet with no network, how would you record time to bill to clients with no time recording software, what about syncing your palm? Need to print off any documents, then you'd best use a printer? Maybe you want a blackberry and to get your emails?
IT don't do this, or anything else all day. It makes me smile though, people slag off IT, but as soon as their PC doesn't do what they want, who's the people they will call?
The IT Helpdesk/Service desk.
Thankfully, i do not reside in that position anymore.

If its a rollerball, take it out, clean the runners. This will make it as new.
If its a laser mouse, bin it.
Mousemats also suck with laser mice.

Its all documented in my request form!!!
I'm not fussed if they replace with another rollerball mouse as long as it works.

Any dept could say that though and most are usually far more helpful than your usual useless and unhelpful IT dept... ie. sorry youve come through to the worng option and i cant help you, so u go thru another option and get the sma eperson
PS Im talkign about helpdesks only here

You get your balls out 3 times a day? Is this in front of everyone?
Clean the desk? Stop all the crap being picked up in the mouse.

Thats the thing.
Outsourced depts don't care. Its only when it comes to renewal of contract they are bothered. Donna's outsourced IT people are f-ing USELESS, so much so, how they stay trading is beyond me.
Here though (and in most big prof companies), there are timescales. I.E all major issues have to be completed in 4 hours or the SLA timescales (agreed by partners) are missed etc....
Remember that when your in a bad mood, things arn't going right, your having a bad day, and your PC screws up. First thing people do was go mental down the phone, and the person who's trying to HELP gets a load of abuse for nothing.
Techies, engineers etc blah, all skilled jobs, but by FAR the hardest job in an IT department is being on a helpdesk.
Kinda why i was going mad and had to get off, as i was giving everyone mouth back down the phone if they called me and were abusive/rude. Im here to help, give me attitude, I won't help you, simple...
People forget this though.
But then again, when you've got a muppet on the other end of the line who simply shouldn't be there doing that job, then thats just another example of sh1te management.
