I wondered this too, but I think Rob's more concerned with the look than the performance.

Indeed you are not. In some instances (dependant on the material used), spraying the intercooler increases the surface area, therefore allowing greater cooling.

Your spraying bare aluminium (not the greatest of heat conductors, but still by far not the worst), with what's most likely to be an Acrylic/polymer based paint - i.e Putting a plastic coating it. Last time I checked, Plastic is usually used to insulate heat, not conduct it. You can have a massive surface area, but intercoolers are all about quick heat exchange - a plastic coating's going to slow that down.

Forge said its fine to do and wouldnt affect performance, they actually supply coolers painted on request i believe thats good enough for me, although i did query it like you Rob at the start , and this car isnt about looks really, just it was starting to look tatty so though i'd try something..
