Just as well built quality wise as any modern day car IMO, so if someones happy to pay £20+k for a golf, why not for an Astra?

REally no point.

Look for a clean 2nd hand model, maybe with a Stage 2 tune and your should be happy. 270bhp+ odd and save about £5k.

Get an 04 plate gsi, not as new or good as a vxr but great examples for 7k, similar tuning goodies and half the price!

List price for mine was a touch under £21k. (Car + Blue Tooth + 19"s + Xenons)It appears though that there are actually people out their who pay the list price .

I actually paid 16.5k for mine after some serious haggling, and then getting them to let me have the Finance Deposit Allowance. Alternative was the 0% finance over 4 years, but FDA worked out better for me.

They're a fair bit quicker than people give them credit for, and IMO a pretty good comprimise on insurance and running costs over an Imprezza or otherwise. My mate gets a max of low 20's MPG in his 54 plate WRX ran on optimax. I'm driving 45 miles a day in traffic on the M6 and managing 30 odd mpg when i'm light throttled which is awesome IMO. Combine with that it was a third of the price for insurance (£700 instead of 2100) even just for a WRX, and it does start making sense.

If you want outright speed/power, consider a Leon Cupra R though. Still FWD and same kind of price as the VXR, but apparently a £500ish remap sees neigh on 300 bhp .

I'd look elsewhere than the Astra personally. Wouldn't like to spend £21k on one at all.

In the case of the VXR's it's not hard to get a new one cheaper than a second hand one .

I would never get a completey new vauxhall, would rather a 2nd hand nearly new example and save a fair bit on price.

would love a test drive in a vxr but the 150bhp 1.9cdti i drove was a cracking car and handled suprisingly well.

could be worth looking at the focus st if your after big bhp but IMO the vxr is nicer looking (inside and out) and less common

I'd get something else if you are looking at spending that sort of money. Renaultsport Megane, Seat Leon Cupra etc.
