I drove all the way to york and back on saturday, on one tank of petrol

Was a constant 80mph roughly, with some bursts of silly speeds

430miles to a full tank, roughly 44mpg

It's the way to go Gav

I bet I could have got much better if I'd have sat at 70mph all the way, but it's impossible in the XE, it urges you on...

£60 to fill my golf, that lasts me a week, It was less than £50 when I bought it 7 months ago.

Of the 30p or whatever dervs went up in thwe last 12 months, only roughly 10p a litre represents product increase, the other 20p is the duty/tax that gets lumped on! So so so gay!!

Yer I reckon I could get above 40mpg if I went on a motorway and was sensible. Not very good at the eco driving stuff though as my car is set up with all the power over 4000rpm

MPG compition on the way to PVS anyone? Will be safer then last years highest speed challange that seemed to be taking place

So when the price of actual oil goes up, so does the duty? i.e. the duty hasn't stayed constant?

VAT and Duty is charged on fuel. I know VAT is a percentage, but wasn't sure about duty.

Duty's a % of the product cost, then that combined cost is taxed at 17.5%.

a 1p rise from the fuel supplier hits us for approx 3p in the wallet.

Duty surely can't be a percent, how could they be talking about raising it 2p if it was a %?

That's what I thought. . .but then, if the rate of duty is 25% per £1, then raising the rate of duty will be 27% per £1. . .no wait, they talk in pence not percentage. My head hurts
