Take the guesswork out, run it until the light comes on , fill to top, make a note of the total litres you put in, run it until the light come on again.

Now divide the total miles by the litres then multiply by 4.5 this will give you your miles per gallon.

My car takes 39 litres I get roughly 360miles before the light comes on (a lot of dual carriageway miles to get to work).

360 divided by 39 = 9.23 x by 4.5 = 41.53

My car is a 1.2 I average 45 to the gallon.

i can get 320 - 350 to a tank depending on how i drive it

oh and to answer the question, I usually get around 300 IIRC...could probably get alot more than that if I drove sensibly but I dont think I could manage a whole tank without a 'spirited drive'

am i the only one, who doesn't give a fuck about mpg and all that..

i never reset my trip counter, all i do is fill up anf go, then fill when i start running out?

I used to be terrible for checking miles to a tank but now im not arsed. Havent reset trip computer in months. Just fill up when needs be and keep driving hard
