Thing is hot hatch require a bigger budget to start off with. I think the thing with stock hatch is that people will still enter on a high budget giving alot of leeway to pay for repairs, the people that do it regularly will see a newbie and knowingly nudge him off, not very sporting but it happens. My dads friend was in MR2s, he said there was nothing more satisfying than diving up the inside of a newbie on a budget and just watching them move over.

Only up to 1.6 8v - I'm assuming he wasn't driving his clio in stock hatch then.
Therefore you can't really use it as an example as to how you can do 'stock hatch series' on a tight budget like £5000 (inc car + fees). Butler was just pointing out the facts that in 'stock hatch' you have to have money to fix your car. It is a FACT.

without beeing funny, its racing, if your not prepared for that to posibly happen, maybe hill climbing or sprints maybe a better choice ?
you cant enter circuit racing on a budget IMO, no matter what, know many people that do in, and the genral rule they have allways said is work out the max amount of £££ you plan to spend, and double it, they all did

TBF, you can't do ANY form of motorsport on a budget, except banger racing, but even that can get out of hand if you stray into the higher classes...

Of course you should expect to have accidents and account for damages, but stock hatch is unlike most championships, the fields are alot larger and closer. Clubs such as the classic sports car club who run tin tops and future classics wouldnt allow contact such as that. Theres not alot of respect in stock hatch.

i dont imagine stock hatch "allow" contact, doenst mean its not going to happen
offcourse theres not alot of respect, theres 50 people, in cheap (compared to most) cars, and all they want to do is win
much like the clio cups, thats non contact, doesnt stop at least half the field hitting each other

That's because stock hatch is how racing should be. Look how boring certain formulae have become with less contact over the years.
Punting people out of your way in the corners is the future
I think the reason there's less respect in stock hatch is because of the money involved, it's not cheap (if your car gets battered) but it's a hell of a lot cheaper to rebuild a battered Saxo than a battered mk2 Escort/Rover SD1/Capri/Dolly sprint etc

No they probably dont but it happens, and the fields are massive. The chances of pranging it are alot greater than in most others that initially appear cheap to enter.

Go-karting is non-contact. But I have heard a few drivers say that you can't crash into the car in front when braking into a corner if your front bumper is already touching their rear...

No one can disagree with this. It may be cheaper than other racing series / cars, but it'll still take money.

I think the point im making is that stock hatch initially is cheap to enter, and is well known as cheap entry to motorsport, but chances of damaging your car is great compared to others, and the costs add up.

Its quite simple, stock hatch is initially cheap to enter, you can get a race ready car for about 2k. The video displays how easy it is to damage your car though dude to large fields and alot of contact.

I'd imagine it's also quite easy to spend a lot of money pre season on making your area in the paddock look/work well.

It is. If there was contact like that these days, they'd be docked points, fined thousands of pounds and there would be a week long stewards enquiry over nothing.
