tbh, a 12v is brilliant on fuel. Driving it hard, you get like 48mpg, like a hurse, 52mpg.

My dads 1.7 diesel combo van struggles to get 50mpg, you must get no pleasure out of driving at all.

When you drive a 12v, there is fuck all pleasure to be had.

When I used to drive my girlfriends 1.4 16v Fiesta, I would love going down the bypass giving it some, as it'd go and go hitting 90mph (I know it isn't that quick a car). But when a 12v tops out at 85mph before it gets ridiculous, has no power, no torque, and needs continuously changing gear, there is no pleasure to be had.

I take it theyr are no hills or steep roads around your way which requires a bit of oomph to get up??If so then you wouldnt see 48-52mpg out of a 12v.

Can a 1.0 12v actually pull a corsa when giving it welly, never mind driving it to get the best mpg.

tbh, I don't actually drive with MPG in mind. I drive with engine longevity & reliability in mind.

There are quite a few hills yes, including one in which scrubs 15mph off my speed, no matter how fast I descend before it. Crawler lane ftw

You do realise that engines do need opened up a bit now and again to keep them tip top??

Ive just aquired a fiesta that has never been over 3k rpm and i could tell that the 1st time i drove it.After a good few miles of over 4k rpm its starting to loosen up a bit and rev better.

I wouldnt like to get caught up behind you anyway

Because ive had 1 the exact same in the past, except that 1 had been driven hard.It would rev no problem, the current 1 struggled to rev.And it wasnt fuked.

2 lady owners from new,and the previous owner only used it to travel to work 3 miles away, that dosnt require going over 30.

Yeah, hence why I don't drive it like a badger all the time. Only on motorways I sit at a steady speed.

It will do 80mph, but it's just not nice in a 12v, imho.

You have to accelerate with little to no throttle in mpg. And not stamp on the throttle when you do. Also no labouring the engine (ie 25 in 5th because you are doing no revs)

Leave in low gears going up hills so you aint got to throttle it!

I normally work out this way (which i think is quite easy) - you have 4.54 lts per gallon, so take note of how many ltrs you put in the tank, and how many miles you get from it. Then divide the amount of ltrs by 4.54 to get the amount of gallons, then divide your total mileage by nr of gallons to calc. mpg - like, 9lts of fuel = approx 2 gallons. If you only get 20 miles to 2 gallons of fuel, that's only 10mpg... and so on

A 1/4 tank will get you so much more than 30 miles 1/4 in my XS/GTi will get me at least 60-70 miles more
