The link is to the daily mail so I refuse to open it.

Atleast start posting links from a proper newspaper that will actually have proper stories in them please.

I tend to agree, that paper should be banned from circulation. So bad to read, you would think the world was going to end by the way they continue to rant on.

But people will read anything and then belive it.

Same with Americans. They see something on the news and take that as gospel, not knowing that what they are seeing on the news is controlled by higher powers

So because the price of fuel artificially rose to extortionate levels and has now come back down I should be thankful?? You my friend are very naive.

As for leaving the UK I'd love to go to N.Z. but the distance would be a killer.

And if I knew I could learn the language and settle I'd go to china Yes theres a distance issue to, but its such a great place (as long as you have got money)..

Dropping VAT from 17.5% to 15% is not 2.5p in the pound! its 2.1p in the pound difference;

If you pay £1.00 for something then the orginal price - VAT is not (100-17.5) 82.5% of the final value ie £0.825; It is actually £1.00/1.175=£0.851
if you then pay 15% VAT instead of 17.5%; £0.851*1.15 = £0.978

so a 2.5% drop in VAT is only worth £0.022 in your pocket per previous £1.00

so on a £100.00 purchase @ 17.5% VAT you'll now spend £97.80 at 15% - I don't know about anyone else but a £2.20 saving per £100.00 won't push me to spend anymore or less

Even on 'big' purchases its such a small saving its pointless.. I want to buy a new TV so looking at 6-700 quid which equates to just over £13.. WOOPDIEDOO!

This VAT decrease is all about hiding the inevitable fuel duty increase, thats the ONLY reason.

And to make labour look like they are doing something worthwhile so they get voted back in.

The world is screwed financially tbh, and its been destined that way from the start.

spot the daily mail reader.

How many transactions happen in the UK in one day where this VAT decrease will come ino play. A fair few tbh.

Im pretty sure fuel duty is the sole reason

The reason it's been done is for companies to save money, not really for the consumer. The amount it will save them is quite significant.

I post a good few millions of pounds worth of cash a month that the company i work for receives from invoices sent to the government so they'll be saving money too
