If you're not comfortable either then perhaps it would have been better to change both?

Where abouts are you in the country?

There isn't much that tends to go wrong on the rear of Corsas so, like eel has already pointed out rear beam bushes?

I seriously wouldn't recommend replacing 1 shock either.

You can get a pair of OE Bilsteins for about £60 for the rear.

I missed the bit about it being at the read of the car, ignore the bit about CV joints.

I'm struggling to think what else is there that would knock. I've known backboxes do it against the trailing arm but that's nearside.

Bushes, as in what you normally have outside your house.

TBH if you suggest something to a garage they will normally just change it and charge you for it regardless if they think its knackered or not.

Just clarify - this is at the back of the car on the right side.

Is that right side looking at the front of the car, ie. the side nearest the pavement when you're parked in the direction of travel or right side looking at the rear of the car, which is the side furthest away from the pavement?

So it's not the exhaust then?

Have you tried wobbling the backbox yourself.

Make sure it's not hot.

The rear suspension mount rubbers aren't all that substantial though Jake, I can't imagine that would cause knocking.

Corsas are fairly straight forward to look at mate and quite easy to diagnose issues with them especially on the rear.

Garages are lazy, trouble is if you describe something to them they will normally replace the most expensive part like they have already done.

I reckon rear beam bushes next.

Are you running lowering springs BTW?

Another thought - could also be that the upper damper thread is overtightened. That would sound like that on that side of the car if the bush is compressed too heavily.
