I took the plunge with a couple of k of RBS shares when they were 45p. D'oh
I would like to think that in the long term they will come good though

You don't want to be buying banking shares mate. Waste of money.
RBS is 10p a share. Cheaper than Northern Rock and BBG before it was nationalised. Think that's next

Was $35 before the acquisition of Merrill Lynch and the US government won't let the go under.

another quick one question, putting it simple, is it as easy as buying an amount of shares, wait untill the shares increase in value and then just click sell?
obviously i know they may drop in value than what you purchased etc etc

The theory behind the website I posted is that it should be as easy as that. There are transaction fees to pay as well though.
