IOm not basing top speed on "speedo" speeds

Im basing it on what the F20 does at the 6800rpm limiter

I'd trust a speedo like a prostitue from Nigeria with a computer and email address.

Personally, in my opinion

Standard 106 gti will get beaten by a Corsa XE

a 106 gti with light mods (exhaust + filter, which to be honest most XE Corsa's have too) - Will be pretty even with a Corsa XE, probably slightly quicker over 1/4 mile but slower once rolling past 70 mph.

a 106 gti with proper cams etc running a true 155-160 bhp, will beat a Corsa XE. In theory beat it by 1/2 a sec or so on 1/4 mile and probably keep pace all the way to redline / if not pull away.

The biggest problem with these talks is that every gti engine / driver is different - same as every XE engine / driver is different.

I've seen some XE corsa's do high 15's on 1/4 mile, some do mid 15's, some do low 15's and some break into 14s.

On the flip side, my Gti standard did 16.1 1/4 mile. With 'light breathing mods' my best was 15.2/15.3 1/4 mile.

and with cams etc it was doing 14.8 (but I was granny shifting, due to being scared I was going to kill the gear box).

See above... it's all swings and round abouts.

My gti with breathing mods would of been even / beaten you over the 1/4.

You say 'standard XE'. but there aren't any 'standard' XE's, they must at least all have breathing mods, i.e. exhaust + filter surely?

standard 4-2-1 and a system + k&n are hardly breathing mod's

breathing mods to me are uprated exhaust manifold and inlet!

im yet to see a gti pull low 15's or less with just filter and exhaust ..sorry!

eh? not quite I catch your drift. 'exhaust and filter' are what I call breathing mods. Not inlet etc. So I'm saying Gti's with exhaust and filter only will do low 15's.

Anyway back to facts. This is what my car made with just a exhaust (pugsport) - no change to manifold at this point and filter (just removed air box and filter plonked on).

and with that my car DID do 15.2 1/4 mile (I can go hunt down the santa pod slip if you wish)

Fact.

I've seen a stripped s1 xsi with 16v with 'breathing mods' (pugsport and filter) do mid 14's. think it was 14.4 or 14.5.

I think you can get the xsi down to 800kg ish easy

My Xe was quicker than most of the vts/gti's around here.

Not alot in it under about 60-70 but then the extra torque the xe's have shows and then you start edging away.

my old std xe did a 14.6 1/4 mile. 3rd gear and i was away from every 106 or saxo i raced around here. some of the 106's can beat my corsa turbo to 60 some of the time.

better torque, thinner bore walls etc.....

you can virtually get to a 2.1, but id doubt any of the std xe's that say theyre a 2.1 are actually a 2.1 or even close. maybe 2011cc or something.
