if you cant afford to run an evo them dont get one, simple.
a good mate of mine used to work at one of the best evo garages in the uk(stevehill motorsport for those who know) and he told me all about how much servicing, parts etc costs on an evo and it really is as bad as people say. plus if you dont keep it bang up to date people wont buy your evo as there are so many perfectly maintained examples out there.
back to a fast small car i would say say the ep3 ctr fits the bill perfectly, or if your after something abit less hardcore and turbo power then what about a leon cupra r?

As for an Evo servicing will kill you new clutch alone will cost around 1k from mitsi and servicing isnt cheap either

No offence but there are better places that are cheaper to get your evo serviced. Norris Designs comes to mind

Yeah whole host of tuners out there. My mates one is 250 bhp + and my mates bird has a 260 bhp convertible
Simple mods such as
smaller pulley and sticky belt
Larger intercooler
full exhaust
remap
will make it seriously quick. Try looking at tuners such as Lohen, BBT etc etc
Out of them I would look at the mini and Cooper S's can be had for around 5-8k dependent on spec

could get a decent 200sx you said your looking for a decent jap car anyone who is after a jap car knows what a starlet can do.. and you can get 4wd starlets just so you know

you do realise that you can get 400bhp evo's for this sort of money.
I dont GAF if the starlet can "beat other cars"
It will be less refined, tin box esentially which you will piss 4k down the drain straight away on mods that you will never see a return on
Dont get me wrong, i know they are fast cars ive been in several 200bhp+ starlets but if you honeslty had 10k to spend on a car you would spend it on a starlet.
Please

if you can get a 400bhp evo for 10k go for it, a friend of mine has a 420 - 430bhp evo 9 and the amount its costing him just to get the engine forged is going on 3k... then it was over 1k for a clutch ect evo's are expensive = (

Ibiza cupra for £4k, with a hybrid turbo (ko3s), lcr injectors, better intake and bigger MAF, FMIC, uprated fuel pump, exhaust, manifold and mapped, should see near 300bhp getting 1/4mile times of low 12's. If you source the bits second hand you should be able to get all that for 3-4k
