it'll be good to see who was more accurate in a couple of years.

I can see blu ray becoming the new mini disk. Cool for a while, but they'll get phased out by something which can't be damaged/scratched so easily.

Like films on pendrives that you just plug in and watch.

We've not got the infrastructure in the uk for HD downloads so discs will have to be about for a bit.

Having them on pendrives wouldn't be any cheaper, the pendrive will cost more to produce than a bluray, especially one that can hold at least 30 gig, you'd be paying 100 for a film.

Then you've got the security issues, although bluray protection didn't last long it lasted longer than anything on a pendrive would.

I cant see it going for a while yet either. Like John said we dont have the capability for HD downloading quickly at the moment and that isn't going to change over night.

I admittedly dont have that fast a broadband speed at home at the moment so it wont help but for example when I download Lost in HD from itunes it takes 6-7 hours for a show thats only about 45 mins long. Not sure how much faster it would be on something like a 6MB connection?

I cannot see anything at present that poses to replace Blu-Ray....Solid state/Flash memory of 30gb plus will not be cheaper than a blue ray disk plus people will not be happy to be told they have to watch their movie on a pc screen etc.

HD downloads is a great idea, however if i had downloaded all of my movies at 30gb a piece, I would need over 6tb of space. Plus, a further 6gb of back ups in case anything happened to those drives.

DVD's / Blu-Ray will still be available this time next year imho.

Blue Ray will only take off if it becomes cheap enough for the Porn industry to get on it.

But when we do move to flash memory im sure there will be something in place so you dont have to watch it on a PC screen. There will be some sort of 'media centre player type thing' in place.

We watched a downloaded movie at the weekend, whacked it onto a memory stick and played it through my ps3. Very simple and easy to get a whole movie from one place to another (carried in pocket). Not that its hard to carry a disc.

well for a start they dont make them anymore and more to the point the leap from vhs to dvd was quite large, not only did it give you much advanced control options and the ablity for extra footage/extras due to the increased space, they took up less room, had better quality and didnt degregate over time like vhs did.

on the other hand while i am well into HD stuff, for the average consumer i dont think the leap from dvd to blu-ray is that great, so im sure dvd will still be around for a long time.

not to mention if you actually had an option in this poll about how many people only have a blu-ray player becasue of a ps3 and dont actually buy blu-rays anyway i think it would be very high.

i have a standalone player and i think the difference on blu ray is massive, its much much better. saw the dark knight on my mates ps3 and i was sold.

i think the ps3 can count as a player in the vote if you use it as one.

and people saying they are expensive, they are only a few quid more on play.com when they are a new release.
