Played

Was poor

Played more

Was still poor

Worked at a golf club, had pro training

still bad....

Every single trainer told me to adjust my style, in a different way. All "pro" trainers (or so they say )

In the end, i go, I place ball, sometimes it curves left, sometimes it curves right, sometimes I miss it, sometimes I bury it, sometimes I lift up the entire field with the club.

And sometimes, just as many sometimes as the above sometimes, i'll hit a fucking peach and it'll go smack bang where I want it.

Same style, same feet positioning, same swing......

Don't ask.... I don't play often anymore

I'm not serious about playing, i want to play with the lads, but I won't enjoy it being this inconsistent. Using my dads old clubs, proper old but I don't want to shell out for clubs and lessons at this stage, not unless the coaching was help that is.

IMO your best off learning how to play golf, and learning what how to hit the ball yourself, every mans swing is different, i used to be 12 handicap but i dread to think what id be now

Get on the driving range then buddy. Go down a few nights a week and focus on one aspect of the game each time: Driving, iron/fairway shots, short game and putting. And just try a few things out like grip and stance and have play around with what you feel comfortable with. I'm pretty sure there will be loads of tips on grip and stance on the internet to give you an idea.

I wouldn't rule out an hour or two with a pro to get you set up. He will get you going in the direction you want to be going.

Yeah i've been having a look, think it will help. I was going to do what you suggested, first port of call with a 9 iron as i've never hit it off the ground with it yet. Found a few pointers on ball positioning etc that I would have never have known, and the actual fundementals of golf that know I know a bit more about which should help.

Right I went to the driving range after a bit of brief guidance off my dad. Loads better, could actually hit it properly with the 9 iron, I was bending my arms too much and lifting my head up slightly (even though i was trying to to move my head)
Anyway, I was hitting it 100 odd yards with the 9 iron, off the floor etc consistantly, which is a big improvement over 30 yards along the floor.

had a practice with the driver though and i'm shocking, when i did hit it it was only going about same distance as the 9 iron shots! ( I wasn't trying to smash it or anything like that either!) What i;ve found is i can't do a full swing, if I take my arms back so far I'm ok, its if I try and get a full range swing it goes to cock?

Going to the nine hole again Sunday, I reckon i'll do better now i've got bit more of an idea anyway.
