CAD as in AutoCAD 2009 LT

I used 2000 LT in college though and got the job

No probs mate, one guy in an office downstairs used to work in McDonalds but expressed an interest in buildings, and he's been here ages.

Anyone wanting to get into engineering should look towards the military side of things - all engineering technology stems from there.

I wouldn't mind something in motorsport as well, but thats very difficult indeed.

Me too, having a degree in mechanical and offshore engineering isn't really suited though

I've jsut done an entire 3D model of my house plus all fittings/pipework/plumbing/electrical runs and even double glazed windows for my plans in Solidworks - I didn't use pipeworks either so went about it the long way

Fair play for that I'm teaching myself it at the moment

Loving the FEA you can do it on it, saves using Ansys

With IES I think you draw over the top of DXF files or something, then it puts it together and makes a building
