No it's not!

It's because the alcohol suppresses a hormone called ADH that normally encourages the kidneys to concentrate urine. ADH is high at night for example, so you dont need to go as often overnight and you have concentrated urine in the morning.

The alcohol suppresses this hormone, giving you large volumes of unconcentrated urine -hence the light colour. This is also the main mechanism that alcohol dehydrates the body -hence, a hangover.

Re Drinking Water

Not really, any increase in liquid beyond what the body will need will cause a suppression of hormone and increase in excretion e.g. in the case of drinking lots of water.

Though with water you will only pass the excess your ody does not need. And you will remain well hydrated. Alcohol has a drug like effect and causes a greater excretion than intake hence the dehydration effect.

No easy way around it short of not drinking!
