Yeah not had major problems either. Always runs sweet and never broke down. Just silly annoying things that you could get with any car tbh.

no it isnt. what a load of uneducated rubbish. cobbled together messes will go wrong. cars built by people that know what they are doing with the right parts wont.

typical corsasport nonesense reply that was. go sit in the corner till someone gives you permission to speak.

Mines spot on except for the usual CV's/Wheel Bearings.

Biggest problem was the water pump on mine.

i think he meant if you get an unlucky conversion, it can be hard to tell how good an engine is, some people pay to make them look lovely rather than go well etc.

My xe has been fair reliable, gets me to work 7 days a week

I agree with nic

Alot of problems with xe's is poorly done conversions and people just driving them like complete idiots.

If a good engine and box is used with correct shafts mounts etc etc are used you should have a nice car with very little problems.

thing is that people dont seem to realise is, that half the faults they have would have happened if it was still in the original car. an oil leak, a knackered icv, a lambda sensor etc. doesnt matter what car its in, would happen anyway. yet apparantly, thats an unreliable conversion. really?

But like you're first post, how can you tell if looking at an engine, that a crank seal is about to go?

That comes down to luck in a way, unless you rebuild the whole thing yourself.

negative. thats not luck at all. wear and tear of parts isnt luck. if that happens in a calibra is it unlucky? or if it doesnt happen is it lucky? its not. its like people piss and moan about a clutch going, or a head gasket going. thats got nothing to do with it being a conversion car.

if you dont know anything about the engine you put into it, id not call it unlucky if it goes wrong. id call it stupidity.

thats what people think though. which is a shame. a big shame. if you buy a knackered old engine, what do you expect etc.

if you buy a good engine, or a complete car you can drive before hand, then you know its ok. things happen to any engine in any car. but things happening to an xe must mean its not reliable. i had more hassle with a 1400 16v than i ever did with my xe. so in my book the 1400 16v is a piss poor engine thats unreliable.

as i said nic never had any running problems with mine the only thing i had to change was the clutch and that was only because the release bearing was going.

I dont red line or drive the tits out of it everywhere i go either.

Do people think that if you bought a ferrari or something and drive it like a formula one driver everywhere its not going to ever break down?

My one has had its problems even in the short time I've owned one, but it has still started every morning without fail regardless if it runs rough or not, it's the most reliable thing I've had so far.
