Good call Jimbo. One of my favourite cars and an important part of my NIB Tamiya collection too.

Adds weight to the argument that the 917 is in the top ten if not top five racing cars of all time. It did have dual ingnition systems and twice the number of cylinders of the above '56, but it had no turbo/s and was still doing 230mph in the same place nearly fifteen years prior to that.

Bell though. What a dude Always makes me smile when I catch a glimpse of him mooching about at Goodwood during the festival.

Oh yeah, at the end of the mulsanne straight the brakes were that cold, when they were slammed on sometimes the disks exploded
So drivers used to ride the brakes near the end to heat them gradually before slamming them on again.
