Really can't see how people get addicted to smoking in the first place :S. Good luck with quitting!

My old man has quit after 30+ years and you can see his health has visibally improved, he doesn't cough constantly and he can actually walk the length of himself without being out of breath.

Buy a chin up bar. everytime you want a fag crack out as many chin ups as you can, you soon forget you want nicotine, just protein as your muscles scream for it

I want to give up, but I don't want to give up. I have done it before for a couple of months but if anything I smoke more lately due to stress at work. I am going to wait til me and the missus have a kid and i'll quit with her when she gets pregnant

The thing that daunts me most about quitting is seeing her go for one, if she's not doing it then it'll be a lot easier as I spend 95% of my free time with her

My old man has just stopped too after probably 40 years. It was triggered by a trip to the specialist to tell him he had pulmonary peripheral disease (was getting cramp feeling in his legs when walking) He is a lot more mobile now and this is just a month or so after.
There is champix and zyban to try but they always get you to have a crack at NRT (nicotine replacement therappy) first as the other 2 are doctor prescribed only.

if you go to a local smoking group and say youve tried patches etc, they'll just sign your perscription for champix
and you only go in every 2weeks for another perscription

Depends where you are from, I know around here they like you to have about 3 cracks at it using NRT before they offer the others. Depends how tight the PCT is in your area. Also if you are on anti-depressents or anything like that they won't put you on zyban as it is from the same family of drugs.

I quit in Feb/March slapped a patch on...
About 2 weeks in i actually went out side and then realised i had quit! (habbit)
I still get the tempation to go for one now and again... Not helped by the mrs still smoking and mum and dad getting me fags when they go on there holidays 5 time a year!
I liked smoking but i just though about all the problems when i am 40+ and that got me through

zyban is the most evil stuff in the world, been on it 3 times and it changed my personality totally to the point where everyone was telling me to come off it and start smoking again

Hundreds of thousands of people stop with and without NRT. If you can't you must just be a weak minded, excuse for a person imo.
Bollox to all this "its more addictive than heroin" lark, just get a grip. Step back and look what you ACTUALLY get out of it, not what you think you do. The body is a sneaking thing, makes you think that suppressing a craving is enjoyment, you have to look at it for what it is though and what it is costing you for that perceived enjoyment in money and in health terms.
Putting stuff down on paper is a good thing when trying to stop, making lists so you can actually see the benefits and downsides in front on you.
