How much was the car up for?
If it's an old clio the guy was never wasting hs time doing a 400 mile round trip.

This was a naive and ill judged deal, but it will make you more wise next time, so use it as a learning experience.

It was exaclty what I needed. Mint con, low miles, the color, the mot, the tax etc. The train journey wasn't bad it was just the cost. Obviously was going to drive the thing back!

Why did you take your mum I know its not really the point but it would have saved you a fortune if you were a big boy and went on your own.

Dee, I can better your story...
Trudged all the way to the back of beyond in essex to look at a 1990, ebony black metalic 4X4 Sapphire Cosworth.
Car wasn't perfect but was more or less worth the four grand asking price and he wouldn't budge so we shook on it. Told him everything I had to do to seal the deal and make it legal and said i'd be along to collect it the following Saturday.
Spent the following week taking time out of work to hunt down and arrange a bank loan and insurance for the car.
Had cover in place and the certificate in my possession and the loan was signed for and the money in my account.
On the FRIDAY. Six days after we'd agreed the sale and the afternoon before the morning I would be picking it up, he TEXTED me to tell me he'd changed his mind and that he wasn't going to sell the car any more.
I'm sure you can imagine the content of the next phone call we had.
In case you cannot, I informed him that I hoped the car would blow up, get smashed up, stolen, or any combination of any or all of the above.
I also wished him a premature, yet lingering death that involved him screaming and bleeding out of his eyes and arsehole and that if that were not possible that he would contract some sort of cancer or AIDS or consumptive desease or at the very least be raped and horribly beaten some time in the near future.
Needless to say he didn't speak much, other than to appologise repeatedly like some kind of cornered bitch and to offer to get me the wheels I wanted to put on the car ''at cost''. ''Not a lot of good without the fucking car to put them on'' I responded. I then told him he was the biggest c.u.n.t i'd had the misfortune of dealing with and put the phone down.
I spent the next year paying the four grand back with interest and loan protection of course and I had to pay the first installment on the insurance.
There's some proper arseholes out there Dee. All we can do is learn from our mistakes i'm afraid.

Never again. Deposit and signed contract in any car dealings from that day on.

Was a specialist policy with modifications and so on as far as I remember Cos. Happened in 2004 so i'm a bit sketchy, but i'd paid the policy in full and got my refund minus a handling fee and a percentage for the time the car had been covered which was conveniently roughly the cost of a months cover if I remember correctly. Not impressed at all.

They are usually refined folks. This bloke was a bit of a middle man/wheeler dealer type selling from home I think.
I think he'd bought the car to make a profit and had not done so. As a result I think he was trying it on or had fallen for the car and wanted to keep it for himself.
Either way. What a wanker.
