Me and a mate swapped cars last year, neither did us know that on both cars, the belt and water pump were on the way out. On mine I got them changed soon as I realised, and only cost couple hundred for parts and labour, my mates got left after getting a wrong diagnosis of the problem, belt went, he's had to get a new engine fitted, which has cost him a fotune!

Instead of looking for parts online go to an actual motor factors and get a price for a cambelt kit and a waterpump, will cost about £100, then pay a mate to fit it or someone other than yourself. YOU will fuck it up.

i did mine few weeks ago.
Parts cost as follows from CES:

cambelt-£17.07
Tensioner set-£37.50
waterpump-£18.24

so around the £79 mark for the lot.

if you follow instructions in haynes, and tighten everything up to the specific torque settings for the bolts etc, then you cant go wrong. just take a hell of a lot of time over it, and if you are doing it yourself, see if you can get a mate who is a mechanic just to check it over after you have so you know its right.

haynes explains things very well. its how i taught myself to work on my nova years ago.

Dont even bother changing it if your not going to change to tensioner as well. Changing the tensioner is vital on these engines. I did mine years ago and from what i can remember there is a plastic one that gets mangled. Sure someone will correct me if im wrong
