I'd tend to agree with AdamB... I think they are over rated. I've never driven one, but i have been in one.
I like the DC5 but thats going to be a fair bit more expensive.
for 4-5k budget i'd get a later classic impreza. I'm biased though.
A 944 of sorts?

So glad someone else thinks the same as me
I'd rather have an EK9 if I had the choice out of those 2.

I did think that the other day after watching your vid... What mpg do you get with imprezzas...
Imprezza WRX STI? could be a laugh.

To be honest, I've always thought it too...
Back in the days when I had my tuned 106 gti, I never - not once, got troubled by a dc2 on track... plus whenever I watched them go past they looked slow.
HOWEVER... it could ultimately be that every driver I saw on track with one, was shit.
I know that most 106 gti's I ever saw on track looked slow due to shit drivers.
I know that most s2000's I have ever seen on track were slow due to shit drivers...
So potentially it's the same with the dc2...
So with a good driver (Big Ego - Elitist - I AM A MAN) like me driving the dc2 it may be better than I think. Definately won't be quick in a straight line, as it'll be slower than the s2k and i think s2000s are slow in a straight line.

MPG - now your asking tough questions
No idea with mine as its never on the road, but our last one (STi TypeR, same as current but standard ish) did about 280-300miles to a tank with mostly town driving. Think they have a 45l tank.
so... thats, er,
45l = say 12g
300/12 so 25mpg real world (not caining it aroud)
I bought my current one for 5k. Its a 2dr 1997 R reg Sti v4 TypeR

same, but would choose a DC5 just ahead of a DC2.

I drove an integra on my favorite local test track/country lane and thought it was slow in a straight line but really good round the corners. I really didnt get the whole fascination with the v-tec thing. Its like a really bad turbo, loads of lag then a bit more noise for about 2 seconds. Its the only one i've driven so it could have been fucked but Hondas dont break do they?

I test drove a couple a few weeks back and loved it, its not everyones cuppa t but suits what I look for in car, bit of soul and a good feel. Only downside is the 90's civic style dash and servicing costs.
I think if it frees you of cash go for it, but dont be tempted to buy a cheap one, I always stick to the rule of buying something standard(ish) they tend to be unmolested and you will generally cost less in the long run. Also easier to sell should you need to free up cash again.

If you can live with not much straight line speed then go for the DC2.
The only thing good about them is the handling and the looks.
If your daily commute consists of non stop back road blasting, then go for it.
If its a long haul on dual-carriageways etc then your not going to be getting the most out of it.
If its the 1st tho, then its going to be non-stop ragging it to be any fun, which in turn means more on fuel as they are pretty thirsty when always in the V-tec zone.

Honda VTec's.... all sound, no go.
I really dont get some of them. They sound very fast. The rev at the lights, then all hell brakes loose and they tootle away at a snails pace.
Ach... I suppose once you get them wound up they will be fun on track.

Well I never understood it myself but after driving a few CTR's and a couple of Integras and after owning a Revvy little Clio I see the appeal.
The whole reason its like that is its civil when driving it around but when you want to have fun (which isnt 100% of the time) you can wind it up.
If they were serously shit they wouldnt have such a huge following.

My issue is they arnt THAT good at 100% maximum attack and there is no middle ground between pootling around and booting it.
Each to their own though obviously.

can't see it being too far removed from your S2000 tbh. whats your commute like? tbh, its a pain round town, stopping and starting is a chore because theres nothing at low revs and its a pain on motorways because of the gearing. its also loud because of that lack of sound deadening the most i've had out of mine is 32mpg and they want servicing every 6000 miles
a good bit of fun though when you finally reach the twisties they're never going to be as quick as the other cars mentioned in here like the scooby or the M3 but there you go

Paul I assume your insurance is better then mine but I would go uk as they are a hell of a lot cheaper to insure.
In my case UK = £750 JDM = £1550
Drives supercharged Tec with torque
