The Renault is more nimble than the Astra, but just think back to those laps we all had in STANDARD Astra VXRs on road tyres around the 'Ring

Exactly.

They are much more capable than people give them credit for.

VXR is a bit un-inspiring as standard for sure. Its the rear end, it feels all fat and wallowy, but it sticks and you use its lardy ass to get the car turned in. It feels like its lifting and goes light, but if you have the turn in right the back end sticks like glue and you'll have had to go into the bend mega wrong to get it out of shape.

Suspension is a little hard as standard, but it is a good car. Brakes could do with more feel from the pedal, but that doesn't stop them braking quite well.

What is funny? The Astra isn't without it's faults but it doesn't take much to perfect.

Drinks a lot, farts and burps on occasion, you wouldn't kick it out of bed though.

Astra is a track focussed car.

the seating position makes it more comfy to drive with 2 hands on the wheel. Good seating position and good seats with plenty of lumber support.

Ours averages 27mpg, so not really too bad. Seen 6.9 though and done a whole tank in 125 miles

If you are into buying expensive new cars and then having to modify them- then the Astra is great.....Its not finished from the factory though...or at least it wasnt good enough for me to part with my cash(I didnt want to fnish it off like I had to do to all my other cars)...I have no doubt with the correct modifications that it would be immense.

If it was my money I would buy the Megane - but im biased because I love the R27 so much. The R26 needs nothing doing to it though - its the best handling car in its class as standard by a mile imo.

Good deals to be had on one- two year old R27's at the moment.

The Clio 200 is a little smoother(slightly more lower down grunt) but if I hadnt of been told that by the dealer I probably wouldnt have noticed.

Main draw back to the Clio 200 is that it is ugly as sin...im not someone who puts looks at the top of his priorities when buying a car- but I just can not bring myself to trade in my r27 for that new clio...its rank.

Yeah i can't make up my mind on the looks of the clio, tis the only problem. Same with megane tbh, quite like the R26R but that seems a lil extreme for a daily driver
