Ray Mears says it's good to do that when you're stuck in sand/mud. So I guess that same principle applies for snow too ?

Just dont drive at all is my advice. Cant be many things that wont wait till the snow has gone. Not worth the risk. Cant believe how many people are out in cars. Ridiculous.

Well it speads the weight. I only run about 20 psi in my offroader.

If you have see the 4x4 in iceland - they go away for days in hugh land cruisers running like 6 psi. The tyres come off the rims sometimes.

But only if your tyres are designed to do so. I'd do what it says in the handbook for your car...

I drive a Ford, so I imagine my handbook probably only talks about how to locate my nearest breaker's yard TBH.

Then if the tyre comes of the rim, just use lighter fuel to put it back on.

I suspect Ed has chains for the same reason I do, We go to the Alps every year and by law you must carry snow chains in your car

It annoys me that most people don't understand our pain. I've just been unable to park outside my flats as it's ice and uphill. Few cars waiting behind with fwd are like 'what's the problem'. They watch me snake about then slide backwards down the slope. Afterwards they all just drive straight up it!
