So let me get this straight,he wants to do all he can to get some lower times on the 1/4??Then fit the road wheels when hes finished and back on the open road.

WHY??

Thats 1 thing ive never understood. Its like stripping a car of its interior, doing a few runs for some better times, then fitting it back in when you get home.

IMO a road/drag car should be a car thats driven on the strip in the same state its driven on the road.Like Nic Barnes corsa for example.Turns up,puts the times in,goes home and drives it just like he day earlier in the day.

Why does anyone do anything to their cars? because they want to!!!

I stripped my Mk3 out when I ran it at Santa Pod and at Bruntingthorpe, cos if I didn't I would just be thinking 'if I had done it I would of gone quicker'. Like when I go with a bigger turbo and injectors, I will have a track/drag map (around 300bhp) and a road map with around 200bhp, why? 200 is all thats needed on the road and it means brakes, tyres, etc wear less quickly.

in all honesty there is no point in doing that. i have 3 maps on my ecu. i never change of the higher powered one. just use less throttle. you dont need to drive at 100% throttle all the time infact i very rarely do.

I don't do less throttle all or nothing tbh the switching of maps will probably save my life too

fair enough. i just dont see the point personally in using a road legal car, making it not like it is on the roads, then racing it, then putting it back to how it is on the roads. as i said above i couldnt be arsed with that. i rather have a slightly slower car thats exactly the same as i drive it to work. although i guess that defeats the object of making a car faster for a drag strip.

Nah was deff a 3door, was at york when i went in my x14xe, beat it off line, then pulled infront of me and beat me, then when i went again in x16xe which was about 135bhp, i thought id have him, but must have had more work and it smoked past me again

Just thought with you saying your mate goes to york a lot, could have been that one cause ive seen it there 3 or 4 times.

Im not arguing about doing stuff to a car etc.

In a way your plan is completely different. You can run your car on the road the same way as you can on the strip, legally.
You might say you'll keep the specific map to specific occassions when that simply wont be the case. What happens if you come across something remotly quick while your on the road map, your gonna switch it to the drag map.Thats what its their for.

yeah or if its a slow as hell car just use less throttle to even it up a bit. its good fun making stuff like civics and saxo's think they are winning.

the only thing i change is tyre pressures btw which i suppose is cheating.

Exactly Nic.

Antnee, your not telling me your going to be all out non stop on the 200bhp map when your anywhere except a drag strip/track.Thats what your saying.

You can still drive sensibly if need be no matter what map your on.

i do understand what antnee is on about. you just get bored of messing about with maps and stuff after a while. throttle control isnt exactly all that hard to master.

So what happens if your on the 200bhp map and you come across something on the road thats just that wee bit quicker than you,yet you know you'd be quicker if you were on the higher map??

Do you feel shit that youve got all that power but cant use it instantly??

Yeah, but the 200bhp map would also be for insurance reaons, can't see too many insurers liking a 20y/o with a 300bhp FWD car!!

Heres a video of the car in question

so if they decide to check your car after an accident and find a different map available they are going to believe you never used it on the road?

oh dear god.

I dont know how insurance works regarding remapped ecu's etc but from what your sayin Antnee, they ask what sort of power it will run at the maximum. So by telling them 200(yet you have a 300bhp map also)then your not declaring all mods, just some.
