we get bad snow most years but never have i seen it this bad, snow and ice from last time wasnt even near gone now this on top, cars are stuck again

That may be so, but not all over Europe. The ones in Germany and Austria are just a more rugged tread pattern.

But then anyone who saw the Top Gear thing from Finland knows how seriously they take their driving.

Ash, in some countries winter tyres are comprhensive in winter months ( usually from november till march). Studded tyres are optional however they are baned in soe countries are as the studs damage roads when there is no snow or ice.
