lotus developed the C16xe that made 148bhp, but vaux thought it would be abit stupid to sell it in that tune with the c20xes made 147/156 or so, or the ecotec lumps makin 135/140 or whatever they make(never work on eco tec so dont know)
there were rumours the lotus software was knocking about, but i guess to really know what they did you would have to get hold of lotus. bit shit really as the gsi is a well over rated car with the crap 109/106bhp they sold it with

that lotus maybe designed a c16xe that maybe made 148bhp then vauxhall thought no and put a different one in the production cars?

lotus did develope the c16xe to make 148bhp, but vaux had it restricted, so essentially it is the same engine, bar a few go faster goodies.

its not really a different one, its the same block but with a restrictive inlet. if you can prove to me that lotus developed only the inlet then i will agree nick

the block is the same as a 1.6 8v. or 1.4 8v, or 1.2 8v essentially. i cant see lotus developing an engine block for a gm production car thats nothing special. considering its the same engine in the 1.6 16v astra, just with different inlet manifold. essentially the same though.

its still a vauxhall engine people can say what they want. . ive been developing my let and its now not a vauxhall engine because i stuck a different turbo on it and changed a cam or 2.

they may well have developed bits of the engine as it was destined for the gsi, which is not really a sports car but the best of the range
can you really achieve 40+ bhp from inlet mods?

not on its own no. which kinda says its more a vauxhall engine of a production car than a lotus developed engine in a production car.

lost on what exactly?
for a good 150bhp ish, you would need ideally a throttle body set up, a right good exhaust system and a good exhaust manifold and some right good mapping. none of which comes with a corsa gsi production car.

so what do you think lotus tuned on the 1.6? to achieve over 40bhp more?

my 1.4 made 136bhp in something which weighed 780kg, and did a 15.7 on its only 1/4 run
keith piper made 191bhp with the sbd catalog thrown at it, it then caught on fire when the rod exicted the block

inlet and exhaust and different mapping maybe different cams, different head work? although apply that principle to a 20xe and youd get 200+ ish bhp. so for a production engine tuned by lotus, id kinda say the 1.6 16v isnt anything amazing. its a whole 6 or 9bhp depending on c16xe or x16xe more than a 1.6 8v vauxhall engine.

id actually prefer to go back to that comment anyway
