It's probably a sensible idea to get everyone online. You're going to need to have an internet connection pretty soon seeing as payments are all going to be electronic in the next few years. School children need a computer for homework and more and more schools are using VLE's and email to operate.

£300m isn't a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, however it probably will never happen seeing as Labour are going to be out in a couple of months time.

Yes, but not at the taxpayer's expense. If we got more people that CAN work actually working, they can buy their own computers.

Some people are just bone idle and expect others to hand everything to them on a silver platter. FFS if some disabled people can work, why the hell can't these lazy chavs also work and learn the value of money and respect.

When i was in primiary school we had 2 computers for all the students. They were on trolleys and could were wheeled into the class room. They ran win 3.1 had no internet lol well, they wernt even networked.

Then in secondary school. We had 1 it suite, about 40machines, networked, but still no internets and on 3.1. Half way through my secondary school they up graded to all new win 98machines (still without internets) and gave away the old machines to some of the students. I got one but it had no hdd in it apparantly they all booted from the network.

We only had Acorn Archimedes computers when I was in school!

Just before I finished they got in a brand new AST computer, it was a Pentium 75 and the IT teacher would often play Sim City on it during his lunch break!

Id rather see him build a big bonfire out of £300m worth of £5 notes and set it on fire tbh.

Im fed up of this Govt. insisting on giving handouts to people (and I will guarantee that the ones who really deserve these wont get them), when we have much more pressing matters to deal with.

how many of these will end up on ebay?

why not spend the money on improving our schools and by running hour sessions after school for kids to do their homework and use school computers?

I've had involvement in a similar project. The amount of damage is unbelievable. Laptops being dropped, sat on or broken with no explaination.

Aye, broken screens are the most common issue with ours. Idiots, they treat nothing with respect. Had i been given a laptop when i was a school...i would have treasured it.

Its really funny too. Some students fuck about with them and try to install stuff on them....and fuck them up totally. We make them all (and their parents) sign a form to agree to certain rules...one being that they can't install anything on them. The other day, one came back to us which "wouldnt boot". It was stuck on the Windows Vista boot screen...and we gave them out with XP Pro on

Needless to say...they wont be getting it back
