The point in a Fiat used to be to give you a top spec car with lots of toys for not much money. I think they are trying to be the Italian version of Ford, or high end Citroens and Renaults because the price of the new cars have gone up.
Alfa were always about giving you performance. How many hatchbacks to you see with a decent 2.0, double wishbone front suspension and a trailing arm rear setup in the 147 price bracket? Naturally there is compromise and the quality of some of the interior parts are a bit questionable but I wouldn't say they fall apart.

You spent £15k on your car?

i spend 11 on my Punto... should have been 14 odd before discount too
Anyway. the older models arent too bad as long as theyve been looked after, Twinspark belts used to snap for fun but alfa revised the schedule
Newer models are pretty much trouble free, the 3.2 and 2.2 are holden (gm) lumps.. theres still the odd electrical fault with power windows dropping on their own.. iirc we just replace the nodes and jobs a good un.
Steering racks tend to go on the 159's too. but normally its covered under warranty so not a big problem really..
Best thing i would say Adam is to come down and have a test drive, were not a million miles away being just outside Knutsford. we even have a Abarth 500 here atm

Everyone says alfas are sexy. I just dont get it.
The only one that ever made me go ooooo was the GT. The Mito is cute, but looks ill proportioned imo. The old 159? The 5series contender looked very appealing especially in that pearly white colour.
But that Brera thing looks hideous imo

The MiTo imo only looks good in person, in pics they look quite ugly, (Sorry Pow )
159 TI would be my ideal car, Alfa Red with 19" TI Rims

I think people say the Brera is good looking because Clarkson told them to. Truth be truth, it has a fat arse!

I dont like the standard brera, looks squashed. Brera Spider is fit though
159 is nice too, especially next to the dullsville copycat offerings from bmw and audi.

no way.
i parked up next to one in a car park a while back.
made my car look shit and boring.
stunning alloys, lovely brake calipers. small details everywhere.
looks so much better than any other mainstream car out there right now.
sexual. but i prefer them in grey.

i quite like it. i know what you mean about the fat arse but it looks different in a good way.
supposed alfa's are very opinionated in their design. love them or hate them.

The good thing about Alfas are that the styling has come from a designer, not a comittee of people in sales and marketing.

I like Alfas , some really nice cars but some totally gash.
Would definetly not choose a mito over a fiesta , mito is ugly as sin !
