The names had no meaning prior to someone saying 'Lets call this whatever'.

It wasnt like they made a name up and then went out to find something that meant that.

I imagine the fruit was around before someone said - lets call that colour orange.

But technically the colour orange (prior to it having a name) was obviously around before the fruit.
