Lets not forget the Audi/VW 4 Motion too!

What i find silly is, they used to make Siera XR4x4's and also carried on making Mondeo 2.0 Ghia 4x4's, Escort RS2000's were 4x4 too.

They have done it before several times so imo there is no excuses!

Really? The focus WRC cars have been 4wd for years, can't see they couldn't just transfer the lot across for a limited edition car like the RS.

Transfer a hydraulically actuated sequential gearbox with straight cut gears onto a road version? That gearbox probably costs as much as the retail on the current Focus RS.

Not the whole transmission system, surely the rally 4wd mechanism could be reverse engineered to accept a conventional manual gear box.

Then you're just developing a new drivetrain.

The majority of the design would have already been done for the WRC car, all that ford needed to do then is to find a way to mate it up to the engine/gearbox from the FRS.

I don't think you're taking into consideration the amount of work and development that would need to go into this.

Might be a stupid question but why couldnt they use the same system that was fitted to the Escos??Maybe develop it a wee bit etc.

Bit dated, but also the engine is longitudinally mounted so that would mean that the whole floorpan and a lot of the interior would need to be re-developed. The way they got around it in the Escos is to use the Sierra platform with an Escort body, as the Escort was FWD.

(I really don't think the world would be impressed with a car which had it's platform developed in 1980 either )

I think the realistic option for it would have to be a Haldex system (Quattro with a transfer box). But you've then got to wonder what they're aiming for. Fast hot hatch or RS4 wannabe? It's missing a fair chunk of engine to try and be an RS4 and it apparently drives rather well for a hot hatch.

Because they wouldn't be able to pocket so much cold hard cash from the sale of each car. Ford are tight, stingy fuckers and always have been.

The damn thing should have been RWD. That would have been simple and cheap enough.
