Taking a chunk out of a boot is still lucky tbh.

I've know a chain to come off at racing events and litearlly take a huge chuck out of the engine casing (as in exposed pistons!!!!!).

Think of how fast a chain is spinning when it comes of. I think its more scarey than binning it

Whats all this "lucky to have a leg talk" The chain is being pulled across the top so it always spits out downwards, you get a bit of upward 'whip' but have you ever tried to bend a chain sideways? Its not happening so your legs are fine

The only real danger of losing your chain is if you were powering out of a corner or using your gears to slow down into a corner, then it can be catastrophic!

Keep your chain clean and well lubed then you wont get tight links that generally cause the chain to snap prematurely.

Becuase davey, a chain goes forwards back or down or up. You leg is forwards, up, and down, so its not just the chain flicking, its also the debris from the other metal as it cuts through.

Yep, but the chain is heading down and rear wards I I say there is some whip but it depends on where the break occours, generally the brake will be forward of the rear sprocket so there isnt much length and mass to create a big whipping motion.

Very unlucky, but lucky at the same time m8.

I've just been doing my chain today, was hoping to go out this afternoon, but it dulled over and started spitting with rain. Was sunny and warm when I woke up this morning

Any tips for getting the gearbox sprocket off? Or did you use air tools?

That's a bummer, been lovely here all day, would have loved to go out

Indeed exactly that! Makes the bike look evil And you can easily remove and put them under the rear seat when it gets dark.

Get pics of yours up Mo

I've seen people lose their leg over it happening usually the odd thread pops up on Bikechatforums about it happening to people

I lubed it a few days before. Looks like the chain has snapped where the link was, hard to tell properly as it's been getting run over for 2 days

I know of a local guy that had this happen to him! It got caught in the wheel and spat him off aparantly! Was basically crippled for about 3 years trying to sort his leg out!!

Everybike ive had - i put a new chain and sprocket set on it!

That's a little bit anal for my liking but I can see your reasoning behind it!
